There is still no known, definite cure of liver cirrhosis. However Dr. Oliver Kennedy, who is a professor at the University of Southampton, gave an interesting angle. His study showed that, coffee consumption is very significant, in reducing the risk of developing cirrhosis of the liver.

Dr. Oliver Kennedy-a professor at the University of Southampton, results was published in the science journal, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics. In it the researchers stated that in context of liver diseases, coffee gives certain protective effects.
The study involved 2,000 liver cirrhosis patients. They were divided into two groups. The results showed that one cup of coffee a day reduced the risk of cirrhosis by 22 percent, two cups reduces it by 43 percent, and three cups by 57 percent. Also, four cups of coffee a day brings the risk down by risk 67 percent. The results were eventually compared to those who did not drink coffee.
“Coffee appeared to protect against cirrhosis,” said Dr Oliver Kennedy of Southampton University, who led the study.
